My First Attempt at making Tobacco Onions was a total disaster.
So Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes.
Here is the recipe:
5 cups peanut or other light oil
2 large yellow or sweet onions, and red onions as well tho optional
peeled and sliced EXTREMELY, very thin
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
They are just deep fried onions in flour mix with pepper. but i cut them way too thick and the flour didnt really stick that well either
Cut the onion in half and thinly shred - - dip in seasoned (pepper a must) Self Raising flour and deep fry a few a time so they fry properly and dont stick together - do it until golden brown, drain on kitchen paper.
If you soak the onions in milk before you start, that'll make them stringy the way tobacco onions are meant to be.
However - dont do what I did and re-fry any of them to re-heat as it makes a pulp. Keep them warm in the oven until you have them all cooked.
